Our sweet Patrick is a pet and a star. He is a part of our family and he is adored by everyone who meets him. It’s very difficult to take his photograph, because the moment you go in to his paddock he wants to come up and say hello and play and put his nose against yours, as if he is giving you Eskimo kisses. But he is so much more than a pet. He works as a therapy horse at HorseBack UK, and he has helped veterans with life-changing injuries, and students on our Youth Development courses, and the very young children who come up with their veteran parents to have family fun weeks.
He is highly trained for this work. He might look tiny and fluffy and comical, but he can do things which most horses don’t know how to do. Yet, in a way, his best therapy comes not from his training and his skills, but from his heart. He is such a generous and funny little fellow that you can’t help smiling, the moment you see him. He makes people laugh, and that is the best therapy of all.
